The visual arts is the visual perception to interpret something that can be looked at and are primarily visual in nature, such as a drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture; communication and design arts such as film, television, graphics, and product design; architecture and environmental arts such as urban, interior, and landscape; folk arts; and works of art such as ceramics, fibers, jewelry as well as works in wood, paper, and other materials. This type of an art form focuses on the creation of works which are primarily visual in nature. There are many other forms of art disciplines like the performing arts, language arts, textile arts, and culinary arts having aspects of the visual arts as well as other type of arts.
Drawing is a form of visual art with the purpose of making an image using a range of tools and techniques including dry media such as graphite pencils, pen and ink, inked brushes, wax color pencils, crayons, charcoals, pastels, and markers. The key techniques used in drawing include line drawing, hatching, crosshatching, random hatching, scribbling, stippling, and blending.
Painting is used as means of expression in visual arts. It is the practice of applying paint, pigment, color or other medium to a surface like a as wall, paper, canvas, wood, glass, lacquer, clay or concrete. Paintings may be decorated with gold leaf, and some modern paintings incorporate other materials including sand, clay, and scraps of paper. The purpose of painting is dependent on the artist. Some artists express their inner soul through paintings, while others simply paint for pleasure and for the sheer joy of creating something by mixing paint, smearing it on a canvas and seeing the results.
Printmaking is another medium of creative expression. It is the process of producing a work of art by printing, normally on paper. This form of visual art has the ability of producing multiples of the same piece of art, which is called a print. It is not a copy but an original since it is not a reproduction of another work of art and is technically known as an impression. There are a number of techniques involved in printmaking such as woodcut, line engraving, etching, lithography, screen-printing, serigraphy and silk-screening.
Photography is a unique and creative medium of self-expression. It is a form of visual art that produces pictures by using light patterns reflected or emitted from objects which are recorded by means of mechanical, chemical or digital devices known as cameras. Filmmaking is a form of visual art that produces motion-pictures with the help of photographs and diagrams. This involves an initial conception and research, scriptwriting, shooting and recording, animation or other special effects, editing, sound and music work.
The visual arts can be an important and rich domain especially in learning for young children through engagement in art viewing and art making experiences. In adults too, it enriches and beautifies lives via built forms and shapes like architecture, interiors, landscapes and cities. Interior environments can have an insightful effect on our mental state, health, job satisfaction and consumer tendencies.
