Rolling doors or flexible doors differ from other doors which swing on a hinge. Rolling doors are often used in industrial installations where the demands are heavy. Rolling rubber doors are extremely strong and one piece unlike multiple panel steel doors which are less sturdy and easily damaged.
Rolling doors are produced for home garages and industrial applications. Flexible doors used for the home are light weight and tend to become stuck. The industrial version is made to withstand severe duty and constant use. These high quality doors are often seen installed in warehouses and manufacturing facilities where there is a steady flow of forklift and personnel traffic. The same style of door can be found on commercial repair garages, automotive dealerships and parking garages.
Flexible doors that are made from steel panels are popular but they do have their drawbacks, one serious drawback is the inability of a steel door to withstand an impact. Rubber flexible doors on the other hand can withstand impact, enough to pull the door from the guides with no damage. If the rubber flexible door is pulled from the tracks, the rubber curtain is easily re-settable. Another drawback of steel rollup doors is maintenance. These doors are composed of multiple steel panels which are all held together with hinges and they are activated through a combination of cables, pulleys and springs. All of these elements are potential trouble spots as industrial doors are subject to constant operation which means rapid wear and heavy maintenance.
Rubber flexible doors on the other hand are made from a solid sheet of heavy gauge rubber which is raised and lowered using a high efficiency gear motor which operates quietly and can develop lifting speeds up to one foot per second. In the event of a power failure these doors have an emergency chain hoist so the door is always operation no matter what the circumstances.
Rubber flexible doors also are much warmer than steel doors and they are corrosion resistant. Steel doors will begin to show excessive wear and tear in a short time, this is not the case with a door made from a material that cannot rust or otherwise corrode. Rubber doors can withstand high wind loads and harsh environments.
Highly efficient rubber flexible doors are ideal solutions in high traffic areas and in areas where there is a good chance that the door will be impacted by a vehicle.
