Your vision is incredibly important. Your vision makes it possible to see your family’s smiling faces, a beautiful sunset, and to simply get through your everyday life. Since you vision is so important, it is imperative that you take care of your eyes. The best way to do this is to have a yearly Comprehensive Eye Exam. When you have a Comprehensive Eye Exam, the optometrist is checking much more than your vision.
Refractive Errors
When you have an eye exam, the optometrist will test you to see if you are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism. If so, the problem can be corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery. Often times, a person will get so used to the problem, that they do not even know that their vision is poor.
Eye Diseases
Eye diseases, such as cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy show no signs in the early stages. When your optometrist checks the health of your eye, they will look inside, to determine if you have any disease in its early stage. When these problems are caught early, you can begin treatment, which will prevent permanent vision loss.
Focusing Problems
An eye exam can detect focusing problems in children, or normal age related declines in focusing, called presbyopia. When this is detected during an eye exam, the correct steps can be made to correct the problem, allowing you to see better than your thought you ever could.
Diseases Unrelated to Vision
When you have an eye exam, your optometrist is able to detect the early signs of diseases which are unrelated to the eye. By looking at the blood vessels in your eyes and your retina, your doctor can tell if you are developing high blood pressure and high cholesterol. In more serious cases, brain tumors and Multiple Sclerosis can be detected during an eye exam.
The best way to be sure that your eyes and your body are healthy is to have an eye exam at Family Vision Center. A simple yearly exam can have you seeing great. You will also have peace of mind that your eyes as well as your body are in good health.
