3 Home-Made Solutions to Remove Your Marble Stains

by | Nov 10, 2015 | Construction and Maintenance

While there are plenty of marble cleaning and polishing solutions available on the market, not all of them are the best for getting the job done. One way to be absolutely sure is to stop relying on store-bought cleaners. TipNut, instead, asks you to consider the merits of a poultice stain remover. Here’s how you can remove those tough stains with your own homemade recipes:

  1. Baking Soda. Mop off as much of the substance as you can. Then, use a spray bottle to apply water on the area. After that, mix baking soda and water until you get something with the consistency of sour cream. Put that mixture over the spot. Cover it up with plastic wrap to make sure the solution stays in place. Don’t remove it until 24 hours have passed. Then, wash that section off with water and mild soap. Wait until the surface is dry to check the results. If the stain is lighter but still visible, a few coats of poultice might be necessary before the stain completely disappears.

  2. Liquid Soap and Flour. Another popular poultice stain remover is the result of mixing liquid soap and flour together. First off, set aside 1 cup of unbleached flour. Get a tablespoon of dishwashing detergent. Make sure you pick one with zero bleach. You can go with gentle soaps like Ivory for this. Dawn is also a good choice. Start by mixing the flour and soap together before adding in the water. Don’t stop until the mixture shows the same consistency of sour cream. Apply this mixture onto the affected area to about a quarter-inch thick. Next, cover your work with plastic wrap and leave it undisturbed for 24 hours. After that, wipe the area off with soap and water. Check the results. If the stains are still visible but lighter a reapplication might be necessary.

  3. Rubbing Alcohol. Get a spray bottle. The ideal size is 16 ounces. Pour about 1/8 cup of rubbing alcohol into the container. Add two drops or more of a liquid dish detergent. Fill the rest with water. Shake. Then use. Wash the area after you spray it with this solution. And as always, make sure to check on the results. Don’t just use your spray and call it a day. Wait until the surface is dry then look it over to see if the stain’s still there.

If your poultice stain remover refuses to work, the damage might be old and extensive. Don’t lose sleep worrying about the state of your marble tops and floors, though. An easy solution would be to simply hire professionals to take care of this for you.
