The Specific Role Of The Chemical Check Valve

by | Mar 26, 2018 | Business

There are many different types of valves designed for specific types of applications and uses. One of the most important types of valves used in clean processes is a chemical check valve.

The Basic Benefits

These valves are designed to allow the media to flow through the valve in one direction. They are sometimes known as one-way, non-return or even clack valves due to their design. As the media can only flow one way through the valve, this is essential for preventing backflow through the system. Backflow can result in both safety issues as well as contamination of the system, which is why these valves are so important.

There are different types of chemical check valve options. Within the various types, different sizes and options are available to uniquely suit the valve for the application. In chemical processing systems, the use of a check valve with a PTFE wetted surface will be essential to prevent buildup on the interior of the valve surface. The PTFE on the interior surface also means the valve is highly corrosion resistant, resulting in a long-life cycle and virtually no maintenance requirements.

Options in Check Valves

All chemical check valve sizes are rated for a specific amount of pressure. The nominal pressure for most will be 5psi, which is the common cracking pressure. Higher cracking pressures are also possible and can be manufactured to the company’s specific requirements for their system. Most manufacturers will offer cracking pressures in their standard lines of check valves up to 20psi with specific valves.

Sizes in the ports on the valves can range from one-eighth of an inch to up to one inch in standard sizes, with custom valve options available. Be sure to check with the manufacturer if you require non-standard sizing or design options.
