Although summer is just around the corner, the ugly head of winter will be coming faster than you think. Many people don’t think of the best way to store their lawn & garden equipment in Indiana. They toss it into the garage or shed and expect it to be ready to go when the spring flowers begin to bloom. It doesn’t always work that way. Read on below for a few winter storage tips for your lawn and gardening equipment.
Service Your Lawn Mower
The first thing you want to do is service your lawn mower before you put it up for the long winter. This includes emptying any gas that remains in the tank. If you fail to do so, it can lead to an engine that’s difficult to start next season. Also, the fluid left by the grass you cut can be corrosive as well so it’s important to make sure your lawn mower is clean before storage.
Service Your Ride-On Mower
While it’s a good idea to inspect the belts, blades and cutting deck on your ride-on mower, it’s also beneficial to drop it off at the service center for a full checkup before putting it up for winter. If your ride-on uses a battery, charge it periodically during the winter months so it is ready to spring to life in the summer when you need it.
Service Your Weed Eater, Hedge Trimmer
Make sure the equipment has been properly cleaned before putting it up for the winter. It’s easy for grass and other clippings to become lodged in weed eaters and hedge trimmers. It’s also a good idea to empty the gas out of your weed eater as well.
