Social security disability MN can be a confusing and frustrating process for those who are not familiar with the system or the laws governing it.  If you find yourself in this situation you are not alone.  Thousands of people find themselves in this situation each year.  But there is some basic information that may help you to better understand the process so that you will be equipped to determine if you would qualify for coverage.

Social security disability MN and supplemental security income are not the same.  They do share one thing in common and that is they are both for disabled citizens, but that is where the similarities end.  Supplemental security income is for people that are disabled and have either never worked or who have not worked the required amount of hours to qualify for social security disability.  This is a large group and covers children, a stay at home parent, or someone who labored before they became disabled but didn’t pay enough into social security to qualify for social security disability.  Social security income is also income based.  This means if you are married and your spouse accumulates enough money,  your claim could be denied.

With social security disability MN, you work, you pay taxes, and you pay for social security.  Individual records are kept by the social security administration in regards to how many years you have worked, how much you have earned, and how many quarters you have worked and paid.  Once you qualify for social security disability a statement will be sent to you annually.  This statement will show how much money you could get if you became disabled and were approved for social security disability.

If you have not received a statement you can contact your local social security administration office and ask for a copy of the statement.  You can also request some of the information over the phone.  To find the number of your local social security administration office you can look it up online at their website.

If you find yourself in a situation you don’t understand don’t be afraid to ask questions.  And if need be contact a local professional to help you, as alone as you may feel in your fight there are people who can help you.  Do some searches on the internet, you may well be surprised by what will turn up.  There are many national organizations that could help you find someone in your city that will be able to help you.
