The ability for patients to have access to medical marijuana clinics and to legally use cannabis in the treatments of specific medical conditions in the state of Florida is relatively new.

Originally, medical marijuana failed as a ballot item in the 2014 elections, it did pass as the Florida Amendment 2 in November of 2016. This amendment detailed the qualifying medical conditions as well as the forms of medical marijuana, which could be provided to patients through approved medical marijuana clinics in Boca Raton and around the state.

In order to obtain a medical marijuana card in Florida, each patient must provide supporting medical documentation for the physician to evaluate and approve the recommendation for the use of medical cannabis. Patients need to have their required medical documentation when they schedule their first meeting and upon meeting the doctor to complete the medical marijuana certification.

Necessary Information

The doctor at the medical marijuana clinic must review your medical documentation in order to certify that the condition meets the requirements of the state medical marijuana registry. The law prevents the medical marijuana doctor from approving requests which do not meet the approved medical conditions.

Quilifying conditions are HIV/AIDS, ALS, epilepsy, glaucoma, chronic pain conditions, cancer, PTSD, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease or Crohn’s Disease as well as seizures or other conditions that are terminal or debilitating and would qualify under the restrictions within the law.

In addition to medical documentation, patients going to get a medical marijuana certification will also need to have current picture identification and proof of residence. People may also qualify for a medical marijuana certification if they live seasonally in the state, but they will need to show they live in Boca Raton or elsewhere in the state for at least 31 consecutive days per year.
