How to Start a Workers Comp Claim

The first step in starting a workers comp claim is to complete a first report of injury.  Your employer should have these forms readily available and should not hesitate in allowing you to fill out the form.  This form then needs to be filed with the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.  There should also be an incident report filed with your employer following the employer’s guidelines.  If you are injured on the job you should never feel like you shouldn’t fill out a first report of injury.  In most cases it may end up being a simple trip to an emergency room with little or no time off work.  But there are instances when what seems like just a minor injury turns into something much bigger.  This is why it is of the utmost importance that you complete the first report of injury form.  Having the proper documentation will save you grief down the road if you have to try and prove the injury happened at your job.
