The residential and hospitality industries frequently use stack books and stack pads as their primary sample book format. A stack book manufacturer uses individual swatches to create these sample books, which are stacked on top of one another and permanently bound inside a turned-edge casing.
Putting Together the Stack Book
Swatches are pinked the vast majority of the time. However, they can also have a straight edge cut depending on the materials. To prevent fraying, certain textiles need to be serged. A printed identification strip that runs down the bottom edge of the swatch back is typically used to identify the swatch. Alternatively, a printed die-cut paper frame that covers all four edges of the swatch can also be used to identify the sample.
Either the swatches may be built in the shape of a vignette, or they can be stacked in a single straightforward stack with all the swatches having the same height and width. A good stack book manufacturer does this because it enables smaller scale patterns and larger scaled or solid color coordinates to be examined simultaneously as the larger scale patterns.
Swatch Book Sizes
There is a wide range of possible sizes for fabric stack books, with the most important factor being the content that will be displayed in them. The most adaptable size displays a feature swatch approximately ten inches wide and eight and a half inches high in conjunction with various half-width and partial height swatches.
