There are plenty of reasons mothers go for an ultrasound when they find out they’re pregnant. This usually happens three to four times throughout your pregnancy. - Position of placenta. Baby center says some doctors use this to check where the placenta is. If it covers the cervix, that could be a problem and your doctor will likely schedule another pregnancy scan to monitor the situation. Try not to worry, though. The placenta often moves. For most expectant mothers, when the time comes, the placenta has already moved.
- How many babies. If you’re having more than one baby, then the ultrasound will also pick up on those heartbeats. By knowing you’re expecting multiples, you can start making the necessary arrangements, which will undoubtedly be even more challenging, given the fact that you’ve got more than one baby to worry about.
- Your amniotic fluid. If there’s too little amniotic fluid seen through the scan, this could be a sign of a problem. Your doctor might recommend you to get the full work-up to find out what’s causing the problem, along with ways on how to fix them.
- Your due date. Knowing your due date in advance means you can take care of your leave from work and basically have a solid idea of how much time you have to complete your work or turn it over to someone else.
