Function and Benefits of Stainless Steel Corner Guards

There are many details that go into making your business safe and cost-efficient. One relatively small detail that shouldn’t be overlooked is protecting your wall corners with corner guards. Stainless steel corner guards make the most sense for many applications because of stainless steel’s natural advantages, and there are a variety of sizes available.  There are also a couple of different mounting options, depending on your specific needs.

The Function of a Corner Guard
You may wonder why you even need a corner guard in your business—after all, you probably don’t have them at home. When you are wheeling, dragging or carrying heavy material down a hallway, there is a natural tendency to bump corners, especially if the load is so big that it obstructs or partially obstructs your vision.

At first, you might just see some unsightly streaks on the corners in your hall, but over time those streaks will become dents, scratches or even missing pieces of your wall. Those missing pieces may also leave a jagged area where someone could get a sleeve caught or cut themselves. A corner guard prevents this wear and tear from taking place.

The Advantages of Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is an alloy that contains at least 10.5 percent chromium by mass. It does not rust, corrode or show water stains as easily as normal steel does, but it still maintains the strength and hardness of steel. Therefore, stainless steel corner guards will be stronger than aluminum ones, but still be able to last a long time even in harsh environments with high humidity.

Sizes and Styles Available
Corner guards can generally be made to custom specifications, but they often come in lengths of 4 feet or 8 feet with a width of ¾ of an inch to 2 ½ inches. They can have a brushed or polished finish with either a straight or flanged style. The angle on corner guards is 90 degrees.

Installation Methods
Stainless steel corner guards can be attached to a wall using adhesives, but because of the weight of the steel, using screws is often preferred.
