Current Inductors are Essential Operating Components of Electrical Devices

Current inductors, or induction coils, are coils of wire that are woven tightly. It is simply an amazing fact of physics that a coil with several loops of turns will exhibit remarkable properties when a current passes through. A magnetic field is created in the space immediately surrounding the coil. This field will store electrical energy during the current’s passage, even for a short while, if the electrical current is cut off. Place this inductor coil in a varying magnetic field and energy will flow through the coil.

Understanding How Induction Coils Work

It is easy to observe an operating property by using an inductor coil in a simple experiment. Take, for instance, a simple circuit and connect it to a battery and switch. Include an iron bar and wrap a coil of wire around it. The bulb will light up as the completed circuit is closed (close the switch).

Electric current may take a while to build up in a coil, and while energy is building up, the amount of energy able to flow through its wires may be restricted. When enough energy is created in the surrounding magnetic field, energy can then pass through the coil unrestricted.

Current inductor coils do not actively seek out energy sources. The electrical current has to come from another source. The vast majority of coils that work with high-frequency currents contain ferrite cores, which are comprised of magnetic material such as iron oxide.
