Looking for a new place to live can seem daunting and it is easy to become overwhelmed with all of the choices. There are a few relatively easy steps you can take to make your search for downtown San Diego real estate painless.

Make a List of Amenities

When considering the amenities that you would like for your new place to have, you should actually make two lists. The first list should be things that you absolutely have to have. On this list, you may have things such as the number of bedrooms and bathrooms you would like to the property to have. You may also list things such as the size of the living areas. This is especially important if you already have furniture. You want to make sure that everything will fit.

The second list should contain things that would be nice to have. Not having these things would not necessarily be deal breakers. Things on this list may be things such as having a breakfast nook, or already being wired for cable and internet.

Be Realistic about Your Budget

Your budget should be one of the main considerations when it comes to apartment hunting. Experts say that your housing budget should not exceed 25 to 30 percent of your monthly take home pay. This figure is just for the rent. It is not inclusive of things such as utilities and other monthly expenses that you may incur.

You will also want to consider what your long term living goals are. If you are content with renting for the rest of your life or if you want to eventually purchase a home. You want to be able to save money toward your long term housing goals.

Consider the Proximity to Work and School

If you are going to be commuting to work or school, you may want to consider living in an area that is close in proximity. If you don’t want to have to drive, you want to make sure that public transportation is accessible at the apartment location. You will also want to check out the neighborhood nearby. Is there a store that is relatively close? Think about the things that are important to you.

Finding a new place is exciting and doesn’t have to be hard or stressful. Make sure you give yourself enough time to check out each property thoroughly. Visit Pacific Gate By Bosa.
