Choosing the color of your carpet

Choosing a carpet for your home is not as easy as it may appear, there are many decisions that have to be made. The carpet style, the fiber type, the overall quality and of course; the color are all issues that have to be taken into account.

In many cases the most difficult is the color choice, this is true for several reasons. It is very difficult to visualize what a large room will look like when the carpet has been laid if the decision is made from a tiny swatch. People have a tendency to become accustomed to their existing carpet and when they set out to replace it, the process can be quite daunting because even a small color change makes a world of difference. There also are times when the color you really want simply is not suitable for your lifestyle, you may want a white carpet but if you have active children running in and out this will be a mistake.

Stay neutral:

There is a good reason why the biggest sellers for carpet in Charlotte are neutral colors. Carpet has a dramatic effect on the looks of any room and a large expanse of very bright color can simply be overwhelming. Once you purchase carpet you want it to last a good number of years so keeping the carpet neutral will allow you to use bolder and brighter colors on accent pieces and wall colors, all of which are far less expensive than replacing the carpet. Use colors for the throw cushions, art frames, lamps, etc.

Light source:

It is imperative that you choose the carpet color in your home, not in the showroom. The color will change depending on the light source and the amount of light. Chances are that the light in a store that sells carpet in Charlotte is very different than the light in your home. Your home will make extensive use of natural lighting where a store uses commercial lighting which will change the color.

Take carpet samples home with you, even if it is a small swatch it will give you a better idea of how the carpet will look with your furnishings. Don’t hold the swatch to the wall or throw it on the sofa, place the sample on the floor which is where it will eventually be. You want the most realistic effect possible.
