Healthy Snacking Tips for Truckers

by | Jun 16, 2017 | Automotive

As you drive down the road in your International heavy duty truck, you’ll pass some great eateries in Texas, and just the smell of some of these places can make you pull over and get something to eat. It’s easy to sit and snack as you drive and before you know it, you could pack on a lot of calories without realizing it. Here are some healthy snacking tips to help you stay satisfied without expanding your waistline.

Fresh Fruit

Parts of Texas have long growing seasons, and fresh fruit is always available. In fact, you can get some great produce at stands along the road. It only takes a second to pull an International heavy duty truck off the road, get out and pick up some strawberries, grapes, oranges, and apples. In fact, many truck stops and gas stations now carry fresh fruit.

Keep Your Mouth Busy

Sometimes we want to snack because there’s nothing else to do. Keep plenty of sugar-free gum and hard candy on hand. However, be careful not to go through too many sugar-free hard candies because they can cause diarrhea.

Water

To lower calorie intake, don’t buy sugar-laden soft drinks, or coffee or tea with sugar. Substitute water when possible, and this gives you another benefit. Coffee, tea, and many soft drinks have a lot of caffeine, and they are diuretics. Diuretics drain excess water from the system, and you’ll have to stop your International heavy duty truck before you leave Texas, for more bathroom breaks.

Bring Your Own Popcorn

Popcorn is not bad if you don’t soak it with butter. Instead, make up some large zip bags of plain popcorn. You can bring a can of flavored cooking spray for taste.

As you cruise down the road, think of these simple, healthy snacking tips. They can help lighten your load, and you’ll feel better too.
