For centuries, people have used various contraptions in order to have water in their homes for cooking, bathing, and drinking. Early water pumps were manual hand pumps which were used to pump water into buckets, which were then carried into the home. Today, water pumps are much more technologically advanced, and there are four types of pumps that are used in most homes. These are hand pumps, jet pumps, submersible pumps, and solar powered water pumps.

The water is lifted by hand, so the amount lifted depends on how strong the lifter is. There are five types of hand water pumps that could require

* Jet Water Pump -; These are used when homes have shallow wells that are 25 feet deep or less. The pump is located in a small well house or in the home, and works via suction. A vacuum sucks up water through the piping to be used inside the home.
* Submersible Pump -; This pump needs to be completely in the well. It operates via a motor that is connected to the pump housing. The motor is sealed, which keeps it from coming into contact with water. The motor offers loads of power for lifting water, and is often used for deep wells.
* Solar Pump -; This technology is the way of the future when it comes to water pumps. They can be used any place where there is usable ground water. This type of pump can be used for homes, as well as many businesses.
