The choice of structural adhesives is important for any type of surface where welding or the use of fasteners will impact either the appearance or the properties of the materials.

In addition to humidity, is there any risk of UV exposure? Does the sun shine on the structure, or is it exposed to any type of UV light or radiation in a process? This is an essential consideration, even if the adhesive is not directly exposed to sunlight or UV lights as UV radiation can penetrate surface materials. The presence of chemicals is also a concern. Is there contact with oil, fuel, processing chemicals, or even washdown chemicals?
Issues such as temperature, vibration, shock, and even sheer force on the joint area need to be considered, measured and known before choosing a structural adhesive for the job.
