Tips on Buying Unique Necklaces

by | Aug 11, 2014 | Jewelry

Diamonds are some of the top precious gems of all times. They are an embodiment of true love, extra-ordinary brilliance and unchanging beauty. The complexity of the stones ranges from restrained, to modest sophistication, to stunning, which makes them a preferred choice for many occasions, including red carpet events. There are many durable and unique necklaces made from diamonds. Below are critical factors to consider when shopping for some.

Diamonds are graded on a highly regulated scale, which helps maintain their high quality standards. This rating and classification is based on the colloquially recognized four Cs, which in the end determine the value of the stone. The four Cs include color, cut, clarity, and carat weight.

Color

At the first glance, the majority of the natural diamonds would appear to be either white or colorless. However, with the eye of an experienced gemologist, traces of brownish and yellowish cast. The grading of diamonds in terms of color is done on a scale of from D to Z. D is for pure white while Z represents diamonds with noticeable colors. There are other colors like blue, canary yellow and pink which are the most costly of all the diamond types.

Cut

This refers to the physical shape of the diamond. One that is shallowly cut permits light from the bottom to pass through and allows it to reflect its brilliant and glassy appearance. A gem cut too deep will have a dull and dim appearance though its quality will still not be compromised. A diamond that is cut moderately appears to be faceted so that as much light as possible is reflected via the table and the centralized facet.

Clarity

This mainly an analysis of the diamond based on the collection of flaws that it has. It is possible for a single diamond gem to contain flecks of other minerals thus giving it speckles or black spots on the surface. As a result, the gem becomes darker than the others of similar cut or color though this does not mean that it has no value.

Carat Weight

When the carat weight is bigger, say like 0.22 grams, the gem is bigger and more valuable.
