What NOT to do in an interview

Working with temp agencies in Charlotte NC can be a great way to re-enter the workforce, change careers or gain new skills. Interviews are an integral part of the hiring process, regardless of the time-frame of the position. Sadly, this is where most people make mistakes and end up losing out on the job position. Here are some tips on what NOT to do at your next interview:

  • Don’t arrive late: Being late is definitely not a good way to start the interview and could cost you the job. At the very least, if you’re stuck in traffic or have an unforeseeable situation, call the interviewer and let them know so they’re not waiting.

  • Don’t slouch: When you’re in the chair being interviewed, mind your posture and body language. Sit with your back straight, your feet on the ground and ensure you’re making eye contact.

  • Don’t bring your cell phone: What could be worse than being in the middle of an interview and having your phone going off constantly? Either leave it at home, or turn it off before heading in to your interview. Your Facebook status and tweets can wait.

  • Don’t ask about salary or benefits: While you should ask questions of your future employer, you should stay away from questions regarding salary and benefits. Instead ask about the company itself, about the expectations of the job itself, and how managers help subordinates reach their goals.

  • Don’t give up: If you feel the interview didn’t go well, and you find that you didn’t get the position, don’t give up. Keep applying to different companies and improve your interview skills. With each new interview, you’ll improve on your skills, and eventually you will get the position you’re looking for.

Temp agencies in NC can help you build your resume, and prepare you for the interview process.
