Giving back to the community can be a tremendous gesture. There are a multitude of ways to do so but perhaps one of the most fulfilling is helping youth that is at-risk. But it takes more than a great attitude to do so.

It requires working with at-risk youth training. In order to get your youth care worker certificate, it takes a certain set of traits that make for an effective at-risk youth worker.

Compassion

One of the biggest traits that can help you when working with at-risk youth training program is compassion. There needs to be a deeper sense of concern from youth workers in order to help those young people make a real change in their lives.

Having that level of compassion can be consuming, even exhausting. Learning proper training methods can help better manage that compassion and mitigate the potential risk of burnout from giving so much of oneself.

Adaptability

Another major trait needed to work with at-risk youth is adaptability. There are plenty of plans, but only rarely do they go right. Being able to change things up on the fly is something that anyone needs to have.

Youth workers should be adaptable. It’s important to remember that each worker’s personal agenda is not as important as the needs of the youth. There are many more traits needed but these are two of the foundations required of a good youth worker.
