What is Entailed in Stump Grinding?

Most people that own a home that have trees don’t like to have the trees removed unless absolutely necessary. However, trees that are diseased or that have become too top-heavy, and have weak root structures, may need to be removed for safety purposes. This can be a difficult but necessary thing to avoid any unwanted property damage, or the potential dangers that falling limbs or a toppling tree can cause.

Once the tree is removed, the tree removal service will typically leave the stump exposed. Some people don’t mind this while others prefer to have every bit of the tree removed. In these cases, Stump Grinding will be necessary.

In instances where a tree hasn’t toppled over, the stump will typically remain. The stump can be cut low to the ground but it will still be visible. With Stump Grinding, a company can come with a special machine to remove the stump. However, instead of pulling out the stump from the ground, the stump is ground down below grade and then covered up.

In these instances, a special machine is put into place and is operated by a tree removal expert. In essence, it is a large chainsaw like machine. As the teeth of this grinder begin to move in a circular fashion, the blade is placed over the stump. From there the stump is ground down. Many times the wood chips and other debris are used to cover-up the stump to even out the area where the stump has been ground down to below grade.

It’s important to remember that when having a tree removed, grinding of the stump is typically not included in the service. This is often a add one. However, if a company like Business Name is removing multiple trees, they may offer either free or discounted grinding of the stump as an incentive.

Regardless of whether a tree needs to come down because it’s diseased, or it needs to come down because it is a potential hazard to the home itself, removing every indication that the tree was there is going to require more than simply cutting the tree down. Grinding down the stump will also be necessary. That’s why it’s important to speak with the tree service you’re using to determine if they provide this service and, if so, how much extra they will charge.
