There are a handful of companies in the United States that manufacture equipment specifically for the timber and forest industry. These companies often have decades of working with small and large timber companies, and they have carefully designed, modified and improved the equipment they sell based on feedback from real-world applications.
A great example of a type of saw that has been developed to be efficient, easy to operate and allows for a single operator to break down even large logs is a chainsaw lumber mill. Some of these models and options in systems can provide both slabs-quartering or to be able to cut slabs to meet the dimensional requirements of the mill.
These systems can cut logs up to 60 inches in diameter and up to 20 feet in length with the standard configuration. Manufacturers may offer the option to customize the chainsaw lumber mill to handle larger logs, including a much larger diameter. They feature full hydraulic control of the travel speed and are designed to be able to work on any species of wood and provide a clean, even and straight horizontal cut through the log.

A streamlined, simplified design that offers the power and the ability to rip through logs is what every lumber company is looking for. Often this can lead to overlooking the maintenance requirements of the system. Take a close look at the automation of the lumber mill. It should provide an automatic bar oiler, extending the life of the saw and eliminating downtime during operation.
Safety
While cutting capacity and power is always a priority with any chainsaw lumber mill, safety for the operator should also be a central consideration. These systems, which are hydraulic in most instances but can also be gas powered, should keep the operator away from any potential areas of hazard when the saw is in operation.
