How To Choose The Right Wood Flooring

If you are building a new home or remodeling your current home you may want to put some wood flooring in to give it a nice warm look and feeling. Wood flooring comes in so many different colors and textures it can be a bit overwhelming to choose which one is right for you. The best place to start on your search for wood flooring is in your brain. What is it that makes you happy, what colors make you feel warm and cozy, what colors seem cold and dark to you. This may sound a little crazy, but it is a very real way to help you choose out all things you decorate with, not just wood flooring.

If you have decided that you would like to have wood flooring in your home and you have decided on which color would work best for you, you will then need to decide what type of wood flooring you would like. You may want to have a light knotty pine for example or you may want a dark Brazilian cherry that is smooth and warm. If you have a country feel in your home and that is what you are trying to portray, knotty pine would be a great choice for your wood flooring. If you are interested in having a more contemporary home where you will be entertaining a lot of guests, you may want to choose a dark Brazilian cherry that is not only beautiful but is extremely hard and durable as well. There is no way your guests will be able to destroy your wood flooring if you choose Brazilian cherry.

When choosing wood flooring you will also want to consider your pets. If you have pets in the home and you choose a hard wood flooring that is too soft, your pets may soon destroy it. There claws will be able to penetrate the wood and make marks all over it. Soft hardwood flooring is similar to 14 carat gold, it is beautiful but very soft and easily damaged. Just keep this in mind when choosing your wood flooring for your home.

If you want to make a statement you can choose wood flooring that is multiple colors mixed together, both light and dark. I have seen this done before and it is quite pretty. These types of wood floors can be great conversation pieces and are sure to offer your family years of fun and happiness.

It may be that you do not have to purchase your wood flooring after all. If you have an old home, be sure to lift up the old carpet and look underneath, you may be surprised to find that you already have wood flooring you didn’t know you had!
